Project in Laboratory Synthetic Biology I

Level: Basic level
Course code: 1MB205
Credits: 15 hp
More info: Course syllabus

This course is offered to students registered in linked bachelor and master programs at Uppsala University. The course is a goal-oriented interdisciplinary team project where the students independently plan, implement and present a chosen project in synthetic biology. The participants are trained in theory and practice in methods and research in molecular and technical biology. Ethical, economical and societal aspects of the chosen research are studied. Teaching consists of lectures, seminars and presentations. The course study pace varies. During the period June-August where the experimental part of the course is  realised, the students are expected to be present full time. The project is performed in collaboration with researchers, companies and other groups in society. The project framework is closely linked to the international competition in synthetic biology, iGEM, where the results from the project are presented.
