Developmental Biology Including the Development of the Nervous System

The course provides knowledge in developmental processes during tissue development and organogenesis, including the development of the nervous system.  A special focus will be directed towards ontogeny of human, mouse, zebrafish and invertebrates. The course discusses the molecular mechanisms shaping organisms, e.g. regulation of gene expression, cell signaling, cell migration, cell differentiation and pattern formation. The course will further address the role of gene variants for disease onset and progression in humans. The students will gain hands on experience in CRISPR/Cas9 genome modification and perform advanced imaging of developing nervous tissue in zebrafish.
